The original DAT recording was made with pre-emphasis.
The Waves Q10 Paragraphic EQ (v5.0) plug-in was used to de-emphasize the recording.
The original 48 kHz .wav files from the DAT transfer have been archived, and are available upon request.
Big thanks to Eliot Byron for letting me borrow his DAT tape!

the beginning of MINU is muffled, as the taper is still getting his gear ready.
everything gets worked out around [00:47], and the rest of the show sound great.
there was a cut in the encore break.
I cross-faded the two sides of the cut to make it smoother.

12/29/2007 jasonsobel this may be the same source as the other FOB Schoeps (http://db.etree.org/shn/3886). Even though the source info on that one is different (the mk41 hypers instead of the mk4 cards listed here), the muffled beginning of NICU is what makes me think that these are really from the same source. My guess is that the previously circulating FOB Schoeps (3886) has mislabeled source info.

A few thoughts on why I am seeding this:

(1) Although this source info is not complete on the new seed (the Schoeps bodies were not written on the DAT cover. in all likelyhood, cmc6 bodies and kc5 active cables were used). Even so, this source info is probably more accurate than what is listed in source 3886.

(2) This recording was made with pre-emphasis. All recordings made with the Teac DA-P20 DAT deck had pre-emphasis. Source 3886 did nothing to address the pre-emphasis (see comments there about not enough bass, "very crispy highs", or "plenty of cymbals and high hat", etc, etc. All of those are because the pre-emphasis was never removed). This new seed has removed the pre-emphasis, so the overall sound is much more balanced and more natural. It sounds a good deal better.

(3) All of the transfer info is was not well documented for source 3886. With this new seed, everything has been noted, and tagged FLAC files are more convenient these days than SHN files.

So, for all of those reasons, I decided to put this new one out there. But mostly for (2), as the pre-emphasis really makes a big difference. This new one sounds fantastic, much better than the previous FOB Schoeps seed.
