Hampton was buzzin' from the previous
night's show, and the crowd was more
than ready for the second post-coma
East Coast show. I recall feeling a
sense of familiarity washing through
the parking lot crowd this day...like
a "we're back" feeling.  It was very
mellow, and a happy day.  Once again,
we entered the venue hours before
showtime, mostly to secure a piece of
real estate for the taping rig, but
also again to explore all the nooks
and crannies of the coliseum...that
place has some really cool (and hot) spots if
you are in the right place at the
right time...during the show there
are some VERY intense places to
be.....same as most shows I suppose.
Anyway, this show, to me, was one of
those warmup feeling sets, almost
like they were picking up on what
songs were gonna get worked out on
this tour...ya gotta remember, Jerry
was still very much reworking his
chops, so this version of the
Grateful Dead was a group on the
mend...but still trying to forge
ahead....and pretty much succeeding.
I remember this show had a few
highlights, the first of course was
the Touch of Grey opener with it's I
will survive" cry.  The East Coasters
were gonna shout that one out from on
high.  We got a bouncy  Iko in the
middle of set 1, and, well, you give
it a listen.  There were no surprise
breakouts, no real unifying mind meld
crescendos (Not til the Terrapin on
the next night!), but this was a
really well-played show.  I am not
much for reviewing a show, as each
one is as unique to each
individual...

Many thanks to Jamie &
Rich for their fine work in getting
this old analog snapshot of history
into the public realm.
