04/23/2002 | Bill | There are problems with the mix during the first set of this show that I assume are on all soundboard sources of this show. The guitars and keyboard are out of the mix until at least Big Railroad, when Garcia comes in. That said, the sound is dialed in by the start of the second set. | |

This show was a freebie in the parking lot. The sound problems experienced in the first set, is because the huge speakers and alternate soundboard (in the Greek Theater Parking Lot !!!) had trouble. I should know, I was plugged into it. So this troubled first set is one of about 30 that were made that cloudy father's day in 1985. Picture 300 dead heads partying for the third day in a row, at a sold out (official?? 20th anniv show). We were all lucky enough not to have tickets and enjoy the gift of 4 speakers blarring outside the theater. Heat came round and busted me for smiling on a cloudy day... this was so true. The Berkely Police were all over us most of the time, takin our buds and confiscating anything... but no arrests.. freaked out but Oh so it goes. One girl started this show in her 20's and by the time Cryptical was played, she had gray streaks in her hair... she flipped out at the lyric "The Other Day they waited...". She by far was the happiest person there. A Green and yellow "Lightening Bolt" helium balloon flew across the sky, with a dead head or two riding in the basket. They dropped 2 sand bags out and moored in the parking lot after whisking by the theater, during Scarlet/Fire. There was also a fan wearing tie-dyed footsie pajamas doing cartwheels during love light. The long break before "Broke Down Palace" lasted about 25 minutes, the whispers of the fabled "Third Set" were amoung us... but alas, we all took our cue from the encore, and the show was over. On the way back to LA, we ended up on the Pacific Coast Highway... and puttered out at about dawn. Whales broke the sea, and baby mountain lions scurried into the woods. A long strange 3 days indeed. I peaked at the Greek! SPUD |

10/13/2006 | skbarchives | There was no alternate sbd, just the one at FOH and it feed all speakers (both in the venue and on the tennis courts). The mix issues are also on the vault tapes. |
