11/21/75 | Unknown | cd | 1 | A- | we are very grateful to magmasystems for sending hanwaker his cassettes of rare recordings of some lesser heard music.. it is quite a task to go thru all of them.. hanwaker transfered from analog to wav-->flac (nakamichi cr7e w/azimuth corrected-> edirol 09 SD -card-wav-> flac --- 1st transfer to digital media in summer 2007) I did the tracking ..... magmasystems own words about the source of these recordings: "The Art Zoyd stuff came directly to me from Gerard Hourbette, the leader of Art Zoyd, I stayed with him for severals weeks in the summers of 1983 and 1984. He let me copy a bunch of his cassette tapes of old Art Zoyd concerts. The transfer was done directly using my stereo Sony Walkman (WM-R2) as the playback device and his (unknown model) cassette deck as the record device. Gerard's tapes are the masters, so mine are one generation removed "If there are no titles for a specific song, then I do not know what it was called.I wrote down all of the info directly from Gerard's cassette boxes." uploaded 07/2007 by juhab1 |

Benoît DELBECQ --- Approximate Hours: 1.25
Show Date | Venue | Media Type | Media Count | Sound Quality | Notes

03/26/11 | The Sage, Hall 2 | cd | 2 | A | cover artwork inside FOOD is the duo of saxophonist Iain Ballamy and percussionist Thomas Strønen. Formerly a quartet, featuring Mats Eilertsein and Arve Henriksen, their work now highlights the delicate balance between Ballamy’s lyrical sense of melody and Strønen’s weave of intricate rhythmic and electronic soundscapes. FOOD foster a unique environment for true improvisation and regularly invite like-minded artists to join this dynamic musical dialogue. In this performance they are joined by genre-defying guitarist and band leader Eivind Aarset - collaborator with the likes of Nils Petter Molvaer, Jan Bang and recently Andy Sheppard. The opening set for this double bill comes from Norwegian guitar prodigy Stian Westerhus, recipient of the prestigious JazZtipend award. Expect raw expression, a technique that stretches the boundaries of the instrument and a stunning melodic instinct. “Welcome to the new century of improvised music.” |

03/19/86 | Fat Tuesdays | cd | 2 | B | Here's a contribution to the little BD celebration. This was recorded by a long-lost taping buddy from the 80's, Steve B from New Jersey My cassette is a copy of his master. Its a beautiful in-your-face audience tape, recorded, I would imagine with the bands permission since Steve was taking lessons from Frisell at the time. There were a couple minor glitches(this tape was played a lot) Ive fixed them best I could. I ran the whole thing through the Waves L3 to bring up the levels, which were bit low on the cassette Help with setlist appreciated....I only briefly listened to the files and this is all i came up with. |

11/19/99 | 9:30 Club | cdr | 1 | A- | This is taken from the third cycle of the "Dangerous Visions" program created by Art Zoyd and The National Orchestra of the town of Lille. From 1998 to 2000, Art Zoyd had a residency program with this orchestra. Many contemporary composers were invited to write a piece to be played live by Art Zoyd and the National Orchestra of Lille. Experimental Video makers were also involved in that project. For the first cycle of "Dangerous Visions", Gerard Hourbette, Art Zoyd's leader, proposed to play an excerpt of his piece "Glissements progressifs du plaisir". For the second cycle, Hourbette wrote "Les Noces accidentelles". For the third cycle, instead of a new piece, Hourbette proposed to play an orchestral version of the first piece he wrote for Art Zoyd, "Symphonie pour le jour où brûleront les cités". This was totally unexpected to hear in 2000, so I guess this event could be called the "Art Zoyd's (unique) return to the future"! Enjoy! |

In this concert, you will have the rare opportunity to hear Earl Stafford read the poems as part of the performance. 'Orawa' by Wojeck Kilar is a musical painting of the beautiful Carpathian region of Poland, full of mountains, river, and abundant nature.
