Folksingers Choice; Radio-Show
New York, NY
1 Flac A+ A+ Cynthia Gooding Radio Show This is a true not-to-be-missed gem. It belongs in every Bob Dylan fan's collection. The date shown is from the back cover, though this is most likely a re-broadcast date. The actual radio show could have been as early as February. History is a bit fuzzy here. This long lost radio show is in perfect quality. It is complete with wonderful live-on-the-spot renditions of the above traditional and Dylan songs, as well as fascinating conversation with a young, as yet undiscovered talent. Bob relates, hilariously, the eponymous title of his soon to be released first LP, and so much more. There is conversation in-between each song that is priceless. All in all, one of the best boots ever to emerge.

1 Flac A+ A+ CDR [unknown generation]>EAC [secure]>shntool [verify sector boundaries]>FLAC Frontend [level 8] Review: This is a near perfect soundboard recording that is good enough quality to be an official release. The show is amazing and deserves a place in even the smallest Dylan collection. Swingin' Pig used the digital filtering NoNoise system to produce this 'pin-drop' quiet recording. To some trained ears, there is the 'something's missing in the high-end' feeling. These are the same folks who argue the benefits of analog recording over digital. The problem was corrected five years later with the release of 'Now's the Time for Your Tears'

1 SHN A B The Yvette Acoustic Tape 1976 Recorded in one of Bob's girlfriend's houses this tape includes many songs that Bob never released and some that would become some of his most famous classics. The mood is really relaxed and Bob seems to be in a really great mood often laughing out loud at some of the things he is singing. He then gets a bit more serious with the deeply religious God of All Ages where he is accompanied by the heartbeat rhythm of a bongo drum. Rumors is also another great highlight featuring some fantastic vocal form. Bob on this tape also composes some of jammin as well as a very early rendition of Easy Skanking. He also chats a bit between songs about opening a hospital in Ethiopia. The tape closes out with Oh What a Day, which is a long very early version of what would become Misty Morning.

2 SHN A+ A+ SBD Thanks to Ron Schmitt here is the recently surfaced and very wonderful pair of CSN&Y Bill Halverson Soundboard shows! Ron wrote: I have the perfect 06/04/70 show - both discs 1 and 2 are complete and nearly flawless. However, unfortunately all known copies of 06/05/70 are missing the first four tracks of the acoustic set. I have been researching these two shows non-stop for the past month when I first got ahold of them. I've backtracked them to a deadend - all very mysterious,...where did they come from. Most folks are totally unaware of their existence! I believe they were leaked by someone close to the Neil camp.

Hammersmith Odeon

1 Flac A A- Original Silver CD > CDR > .wav This was a show from the "Rio" Tour, European Leg. This particular show exists on other bootlegs, including one called "BBC Concert 1982". This show misses the last 2 tracks, but has a little better sound, and features the intro, which is missing from "Planet Heart". If you like(d) Duran squared, you should enjoy this show. The sound is a tad rough at times, but is still very enjoyable. Included in the .torrent is the front cover and a .txt file. If anyone can find the back cover on the net, can you please post it here for all of us?? :) This info comes courtesy of this Duran site:http://www.duranitaly.com/rio_world_t our_82.htm "This is the first Duran Duran bootleg released in CD, back in '89. According to sleeve mentions it was recorded in New Your in 1984, but this is an error; because it was actually London 1982. It also exists in video (of very good image and audio quality). The audio quality is technically a lo-FI mono soundboard, but I actually could rank this CD 9 out of 10. The famous version of "Make Me Smile", featured as "The Reflex" b-side in 84, was recorded during this show, but here it is presented in a shorter version than the b-side one. "Girls On Film" is a "night version" long performance, also containing the band intro and some brief solos of the Duran Duran members. These two songs, together with the first two ones ("Rio" and "Hungry Like The Wolf") are also included in the A side of the "Live in America" vinyl bootleg, whilst the B side features four tracks from Oakland 1984."

1 Flac A B+ Broksonic VCR with standard stereo RCA cables out to an Emuzed Maui PVRC > one large WAV file, at 48khz > Split W / Goldwave > Flac The tape was over 10 years old, so there are some glitches in the sound - some minor tape hiss in the background and occasional crackling, buzzing and dropouts. However, since the show was recorded, mixed, and broadcast live, some of the sound issues are probaby due to the technical problems the recording engineers had and not because of the age of the tape. Overall, though, the show is still quite listenable. FYI, Fishbone played another hour long set after the cameras stopped rolling on the PPV broadcast, but unfortunately these songs that were broadcast are all I have of the performance. Retrospective
Various, Various
8 SHN A+ A+ Various - All Excellent I created this live JGB compilation to capture my favorite performances over the years 1975-1995 in a single box set. It does not purport to be a definitive "Best of JGB" as I'm sure everyone has an opinion of what they believe is the best version of a particular song. All the track selections are definitely reflective of my own personal tastes, with my favorite shows heavily represented. Nevertheless, I hope folks will find a good many of their own personal favorites here as well. I tried to adequately showcase as much of the band's wide repertoire as possible and include as many rarities and guest performances as I could. Needless to say some of my least favorite songs are not here. So, my apologies to you, if I left out a song that you love. All the tracks here (88 tracks spread over 10 discs) are from Etree.org listed sources, and cover a wide range of audience, soundboard and matrix sources with varying sound levels. As such, the transitions between songs are not always perfectly smooth and you may find yourself adjusting volume levels. There's also some tuning/dead air in places, as I did nothing more, in terms of editing, than select and arrange the tracks. Where the sound quality is sometimes least desirable is on some of the tracks where no options existed, such as "Not Fade Away" and "Man Smart, Women Smarter," which were only played once. The ten discs generally move chronologically from the periods 1975 to 1995 but I have taken the liberty of mixing things up a bit to make it more interesting. The only song repeated here is "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," mainly because it was tied to my favorite "Mystery Train." I happen to love both these versions and think you'll find that both the '78 and '82 treatments are excellent (the '82 being a reggae-fied version). Anyway, I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed putting it together. - Christian (jchristianharper@hotmail.com)

Capitol Theater (Late)
Port Chester, NY
3 SHN A+ A The original audience master cassette was recorded on a Sony TC124 with unknown Sony dynamic mics, This is the best sounding yet from the Ken & Judy Lee collection. The late show has long been regarded as one the Dead's finest, and to hear it, in what is up till now the cleanest source available, is truly awesome. There are four TDK 120 cassettes from this night, however we have only three. Tape 1, 3 and 4. Tape 2 is missing. We will have to fill in the puzzle as the pieces emerge. And this poses a problem. We naturally want to bring you the complete show, but we have no idea when the missing piece will be found, so it was decided to release what we have. I included a text file for the missing sets in the torrent for the sake of continuity. This will have to do until the last tape is found. Noise Reduction was applied to the acoustic Dead set only. Some deterioration on the master tape during 83968 (Disc1 t5), and some other small glitches, none of which should detract from enjoying this show. The original audience master cassette was recorded on a Sony TC124 with unknown Sony dynamic mics, spread approx. 25-30 ft. across the balcony, by Ken & Judy Lee,. The cassette was baked, processed and transfered via Tascam 122 MK-III > Lucid ADA1000 > Tascam CDRW 700 (CDR) by John Jay Hance. Noise Reduction by Peter G. It was a night that was filled with magic. The kind of night that legends are made of. All of the elements were in place. The band was on, the crowd was on, the energy was on, the tape was on. The X factor at a high. Disc 1 opens with the Grateful Dead acoustic. This set has circulated only as a fragment, a few songs that Mark Cohen, Judy's brother and Ken's brother-in-law, had tacked on as filler to 4-4-71, sometime in 1976. Though short, only 30 minutes, it set the mood for the night. The New Riders of the Purple Sage take the stage as the sun is setting... No ordinary evening, indeed. There is an electric set of the grateful dead still to come, and thats only the early show. Unfortunately this electric set has yet to be uncovered, along with the acoustic set from the late show. The rest of the show is here, and what a show it is. There is endless banter from the band, as they seem to REALLY be enjoying themselves. The New Riders open the third disc with their second set for the night. Garcia on pedal steel here, as well as the early show, and he really shines. But the electric set from the Dead is the real payoff. Open Not Fade Away, slow segue into Easy Wind, broken string banter into Me & My Uncle. "Mickey needs to get his gong together, where gonna do Dark Star.." What an understatement ! Dark Star into the second Attics of the evening, back into Dark Star, into Sugar Magnolia, back into Dark Star, St. Steven into China Cat - I Know You Rider. The crowd reels in applause as the band exits the stage. They return for the encore, and you can tell there is no hurry as they ease into Uncle Johns Band. He's come to take his children home... But his children don't want to leave. And they roar as the house lights come up, and Joan Baez plays thru the PA. Judy Lee recalls, "There was this energy in the air. We were all stunned at what we had just witnessed. The lights were on. Everyone was standing, clapping, stomping and yelling. Nobody was leaving. I looked at Ken, we knew it wasn't over. So I flipped the tape." Several minutes of crowd chanting to the exit music, turns into an eruption as the band, with members of the New Riders re-emerge on the stage with acoustic guitars. The crowd quiets as they tune and respectfully offer a prayer of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. And with that, they sent the disciples into the early morning... To this Rob Berger adds: Make no mistake about it, these NRPS sets are not those of an opening act. The Riders in June of 1970 were not an offshoot of the Grateful Dead, but rather a thread in the fabric of the trip. I think their music speaks for itself on these recordings. I was fortunate to have grown up in a neighboring town of Port Chester and the Howard Stein era concerts at the Capitol Theatre were actually not legendary, but rather more of a rock n roll rumor by the late 70's. Unlike Bill Graham's fabled Fillmore East a mere 35 minutes away, a gig at Port Chester's Capitol Theatre was considered a fill-in date. Not high profile by any means. But, as anyone who has seen a show at the Capitol at any point in time can attest to, that room generates an energy that is truly charged and special. Very East Coast. Rowdy, but attentive and knowledgeable. Shows at the Capitol were all marked by a freedom of the artist to let loose and take chances without being scrutinized by the New York City press and jaded big city audience. Most groups really seemed to thrive off the boisterous enthusiasm of the crowd. Between 1988 -1997 I was lucky enough to have made a living promoting shows at, and managing the Capitol Theatre. It blew my mind that the shows we were putting on were so reminiscent of those tapes I remember. So full of energy and abandon. In May of 1990 we hosted John Dawson and his Riders at the still standing Capitol. Backstage over a corn cob pipe, Marmaduke shared with stage manager Dave - O and me a wonderful story of how Howard Stein painted the stage purple for their first gig there in that warm June of 1970 and how the cops were ready for the Dead to come to town after they freely gave out acid at their recent March gigs there. Enjoy the music, the memories, and thank you Ken, Judy, John Jay, and all those who make the music go round.

2 shn A A MR > cassette > DAT > CD > EAC > SHN Jim Powell's notes: There are conflicting reports whether the SBD master is on cassettes or reels, but it sounds like it would have to be reels. The last 26 seconds of Here Comes Sunshine is missing on our copy of the SBD and is patched in using an AUD master from a cassette copy of unknown low generation. 22 seconds in Eyes Of The World are patched from this AUD source also. The 22-second cut in Eyes looks like a cassette tape flip introduced when the reels were transcribed to 1st gen cassette. The missing conclusion of Here Comes Sunshine is harder to account for on this hypothesis, but there seems a reasonable chance that both missing segments are intact on the master reels. Meanwhile, this tree. First set highlights include TLEO, Row Jimmy, GSET and China Cat >\ Rider. The Here Comes Sunshine times almost 16 minutes, is the longest known on circulating tape and probably the best. The Dark Star is the third longest known at 43:28, and one of the all time best. It is the fraternal twin of 11/11/73. Dave Greenberg did the patches. David Gans supplied DATs of the 1st gen cassette SBD and Jim Powell instigated the project, supplied the AUD cassette used to patch the SBD's defects, and wrote this note.

2 SHN A B+ Soundboard > 7 inch Master Reels @7.5ips 1/2 track -> DAT(s) -> ZA2 -> CDR (x1)-> EAC -> SHN Comments: The material missing from the Soundboard source during Estimated and Around & Around due to master reel flips was spliced in by Scott Clugston from his copy of the Jerry Moore-recorded Master Audience Cassette: Sony ECM-33p mics > Sony TC-158 > D source. Specifically, the audience source supplies patches in "Estimated Prophet" (d3t02) from 0:48 thru 1:10, as well as in "Around & Around" (d3t06) from 2:39 thru 3:07. Additionally, Scott smoothed out the gaps/noise caused by the master reels being turned off/on in between songs and removed a handful of minor "pops", "ticks" and "clicks" that were present between songs. With the Aud patches, disc 3 now runs 74:12 Finally, several versions of this show simultaneously entered circulation in early February, 2001. This copy is derived from the version that was initially circulated by aoxoa and shn'ed from aoxoa's master cds by direwolf. As initially circulated, this version lacked the audience splices and the reel pause edits. The aud splices were added to the extracted shns and the between-song reel pauses, "pops", "ticks" and "clicks" were removed from the extracted shns using cooledit pro, and the shns were then re-split using cdwav. The integrity of the sector boundaries was confirmed using shntool. The other version, circulated by David Gans, was supposedly derived from the aoxoa-sourced dat and was not used for this distribution because a) it was supposedly subject to digital equalization and b) the missing material caused by the reel flips on the Gans-seeded version were patched with soundboard recordings from other May, 1977 performances. Seeded to Etree on 2/22/2001 by Darrin (dnsacks@usa.net) HUGE thanks to aoxoa, Scott Clugston, and direwolf for their considerable efforts to get this GREAT show into circulation in all of its glory. ENJOY!

2 SHN A A- SBD > DAT > CDR > WAV > SHNv3 I remember this show very well because of my behind the stage seats - grate view of the drummers and the grate visuals of the throbbing crowd in the first few rows in front of the stage. Listening to this show i still get hairs standing up on my neck and bust into a big grin when they pull out the Playing Reprise 2 songs later. sonic comments: ballons popping throughout!! there were a lot of balloons at this show as there were at most '89 shows - whip-it good ;O d1t1 - 6:58, 7:14, 7:17 popping balloons. d1t2 - 1:09 - d/o removed w/ cd wave d1t4 - 2:35 balloon. d2t2 - 1:01, 1:09, 2:49, 7:28 - balloons. d2t3 - there is a snapping percussion sound periodically in time with music, not heard on other trax- listen @ 3:34, 5:36, 7:39, 7:52. i suspect some MIDI-maddness was going on. i left the several minutes of pre-encore crowd at the end of disc 2 in case any "purists" want to burn the show in order.

Various recordings of these six shows have been in circulation amongst the Jimi collecting community for the last decade, or more. Konserthuset (Early & Late Shows)
Stockholm, Sweden
2 SHN A A Master reels > DAT > CDR > Soundstudio > Shorten > shtn (Soundboard recordings) These two shows have been very well documented and they also fall in to the category of having been bootlegged to death. Probably the best of all the bootleg versions is the double Swinging Pig release "On The Killing Floor" (1989) which is now very hard to locate. The versions of the shows here are from the master reels and provide the best sound quality available. The first show is uninspired while the second is probably one of the best that the band played that year with Mitch and Noel providing an excellent platform for Jim's playing which is nothing short of extraordinary. I suppose what you have here are the two contrasting sides of the Experience. The group by now were exhausted from their never ending touring, playing to large arenas they had almost lost contact with their audience. Hendrix, especially felt this alienation with an audience who he felt demanded he 'put on a show' rather than listen to the music. His aside comments at the start of the first show and the sloppy manner of playing that follows would bear this out. On the other hand The Experience were also by now a finely honed unit that could deliver the goods with astounding brilliance as the second show proves. But why such a difference between the sets. This was answered by Noel in his 1990 book "Are You Experienced?" "Sweden. Always the same problem - no drugs. We were forced to drink the killer Schnapps, and it brought on Jimi's mood for the first set. In desperation I went out between shows and with much persistence managed to score a leaper. We huddled anxiously over the dressing room table, crushed the pill into a powder, shared it out, and snorted it. The second show was much more together and enthusiastic."

2 Flac A+ A+ Soundboard > Silver CD > WAV > Flac "Uncut & Completely Unplugged" - Liberated Bootleg - This is the complete uncut & unedited MTV Unplugged show. Some songs were played several times due to mistakes or to capture a better performance. The quality is a 10 out of 10. The sound is a little dryer than the ?official? release so my bet would be that this comes straight from the master recording before final mixing.

Perfect Echo Compilation (Vol. I-IV)
Var, Var
5 SHN A+ A+ SBD, FM, TV, ALD, or video-sourced recordings. This is a compilation of soundboard recordings from 1967-2001. The term soundboard is a bit of a Some are true soundboards, whimisnomer. By soundboard I mean, basically, not an audience recording. le others are FM, TV, ALD, or video-sourced recordings. The recordings were all taken from cdrs or videos that are circulating in the trading community. Each track was checked out in Cool Edit with headphones, and may have had some cleanup done to remove any odd clicks, hiss, or other sound quality problems. The volume was set on each track so as to have them at similar volumes. Fades were added at the beginnings and ends of each track, so the tracks don't segue, for the most part. There are a couple of segues where successive songs were taken from the same concert, so it still needs to be burned DAO. Most of the banter between tracks was removed to make room for more tracks. There are a total of 115 tracks (109 songs, as 6 get repeated). Some years were heavy with available recordings (1976 and 1989 come to mind). I tried to balance the set by not using too many songs from a single show. The entire 8 discs run in, roughly, chronological order. Originally, I started making this as just a personal compilation from my collection. It took about a month to put together, including the planning of what would be included, the remastering of the tracks, and, finally, the creation of the artwork. At first, I didn't have a title and was just going to call it "a soundboard archive." While fixing some soft static in Natural Beauty, the title came to me, when he sang "I heard a perfect echo die...". I was going to call it "Perfect Echo Die", but Jim Leonard, our friendly AOTW coordinator, persuaded me to leave off the word "die," so now we have the title "A Perfect Echo". The intent was to make a nice sampling of soundboard recordings from throughout his career. Its sort of like an expanded "Rock 'n' Roll Cowboy," with the intent to keep the sound quality higher and more consistent.

2 SHN A A+ Unknown Recorded live at the Boston Gardens in Boston,Mass. on June 18, 1975. This is the best audience recording you will ever hear of Pink Floyd. It is even more remarkable considering when it was recorded. It litterally sounds as if the taper was on the stage. Everything is clear and precise. Unlike other versions of this show, this mix is nowhere near as harsh in the midrange. And, it fits nicely on 2cds. If you like the Shine On Tour, you need this show!

Like it says above it's taken from the Premiere Radio Networks CD. The show was edited for radio and the "f*cked up" line in Pets is gone in places. Also the transitions from track to track aren't perfect in some places. I fixed this with crossfade when I burned it. A three second crossfade between Meija and Dogs Rule The Night and a five second crossfade between Tahitian Moon and Pets. The quality on this is mint! I'd say 10 out of 10.

bumS Lie - The Psycho Semantic Police
KROQ & Demos, CA
1 SHN A+ A Original Silver>EAC>WAV>FLAC bumS Lie, which was released in 1998, contains some of Sublime's best unreleased material. In addition to unreleased gems like Ain't No Prophet and Pass Me the Lazerbeam, BumS Lie features different and revised versions of other Sublime songs, including Greatest Hits Extended, which is a longer, better version of Greatest Hits from Robbin' the Hood. This release also includes clips of songs from other artists as well, including Sublime influences and collaborators Just-Ice and The Wesley Willis Fiasco. There are also tracks containing music by the Juice Bros., a band that Eric and Bud are in together. In addition to music, there are various interview clips spliced throughout BumS Lie, including clips from the Loveline interview with Bud and Eric, and the KROQ on-air interview during which the band toked up and consequently were punished for; Their hit single Date Rape was pulled from the KROQ playlist. The crown jewel of this release, however, is the rare full-band version of Sublime's acoustic favorite, Boss DJ, which includes a few changed lyrics, mainly transplanting the line "I'd never lie to Lou because he never did to me" in place of the line "I'd never lie to you because Sunday morning soon will come." Apart from the tracklist, another special feature of BumS Lie is the artwork. On an original copy, the paper behind the CD tray contains a photo of an older man smoking a cigar. This is one of the only known photos of Raleigh Theodore Sakers, the loon from Robbin' the Hood, who also appears several times on this release.

1 FLAC A+ A Cdr-EAC-Flac This recording was done at George Harrison's house in late may of 68. It's John, George and Paul, recording some the tracks they had writen in India. Fom the sound of this recording they must have been haveing a very good time.. Perhaps some very good Hashish??? Whatever, it never inpaired their playing at all. This is my favoret of all Beatles recordings. It can't be called an outtake recording, just John, Paul, and George sitting around and jamming together. As the insert say's, this is about as close to an Beatles "unplugged" as you'll ever find. On a personnel note, Thank God, George Martin didn't stop by.... just pure pleasure of the Beatles playing guitars & singing....

The only problem is that they are extremely aggressive in reminding the listeners what they're listening to, so the logo phrase pops right up in the middle of some songs, sometimes more than once per track. Electric Factory
Philadelphia, PA
1 SHN A A A Digital Reproductions show. The best sounding Tool show out there from the Anema tour. To make it more shocking, it's an audience recording! Recorded live at the Electric Factory in Philladelphia, Pennsylvania on November 23, 1996 . This is the definitive Tool show. An absolute must have recording. The artwork has the wrong date and location , obvious because of the NYC and Pennsylvania Bay references in Anema.
