This is one of those things I've wanted to do for a long time...and it was a hell of a lot of work putting together. However like most things I torrent here it tends to be something I want to enjoy myself so I then share it. Many of the '76 tour recordings are fantastic, but like any old tapes / archive recordings some songs are subject to wow and flutter (speed 'wobble'), tape damage, or simply in some cases Neil and the band's performance doesn't cut it (heresy! :)), or at least what they did on the night wasn't as well captured on tape. So putting together a compilation like this is my way of enjoying my favourite moments from a tour... the selections were culled from the highest quality recordings. Speed corrections were carried out in Audacity...the Nagoya 3rd March and Boston 22nd November early show seemed to be the closest to the correct pitch and the fact these were the highest quality recordings seems to bear that out. Osaka 5th March had some fantastic quality performances (both in terms of sound quality and performance) but sadly many of the songs suffered from speed wobble...some of the selections I have used do too, but the ones I kept in were very much unique, or unique in high quality. There will be a part 2...much of it will cover similar ground, including different versions of the same songs, which while sometimes not as stellar sound quality as the selections here have their own beauty. The latter compilation will also feature a couple more obscure tracks. In the meantime, enjoy this I hope....

More of the same? You may be forgiven for thinking that...and you'd have a point. HOWEVER, this volume contains many gems. A great singalong chorus accompanying Heart of Gold...Last Trip to Tulsa (as requested last time but already slotted in for this comp)...a rough recording of a rare outing for Barstool Blues...and magnificent recordings of songs Like a Hurricane, as well as acoustic renditions of tracks like Cowgirl in the Sand and Roll Another Number. Four of the songs have been allotted as 'extras' as in two cases the recording quality is comparatively rough compared to the very good to excellent recordings elsewhere, and two are different versions of tracks already on this volume, hence putting these different versions at the end. Some of these songs ended up this volume rather than volume 1 due to the wow and flutter (or 'speed wobble') problems I alluded to before...something that's part of parcel when using music sourced from old tapes. This is good point to add that once more I corrected the speed on many tracks here, comparing to other gigs from the era in particular the Boston 22 Nov early show, and Nagoya 3 March as these two very high quality recordings seemed to be pretty much spot on in terms of recording speed. Some may find that they may well want to substitute some tracks on Volume 1 for some of the tracks here...after all one person's 'second best' can be another's treasure... Enjoy.
