Making their North American debut is FIRE ROOM, which features KEN VANDERMARK (saxophones), LASSE MARHAUG (electronics), and PAAL NILSSEN LOVE (drums). The trio first performed in Oslo of last year and recorded there as well, the material is slated for release on Nilssen Love’s PNL label. Their approach to improvisation is as immediate and snarling as possible. As Vandermark puts it, “…the idea of transitional statements are more or less eliminated, the group is trying to be as severe as possible with cutting from content to content in the music.” PAAL NILSSEN LOVE is the unstoppable force of rhythm and invention driving such ensembles as THE THING, FME, TOWNORCHESTRAHOUSE with Evan Parker, and the PETER BROTZMANN TENTET.
