Tre Hardson Opened the show Spearhead is: Michael Franti - Vocals, Acoustic Guitar Dave Shul - Electric Guitar Carl Young - Bass Mannas Itiene - Drums Bob Crawford - Keyboards * Radioactive - Human Beat Box * Bob Crawford fills in for Kevin Choice on this show. Review by Dan Kramer (tahoespearit) For anyone unfamilar to Colorado and it's venues, this is a brand new club. The food is kick ass and they featured many different selections beer, wine and spearits! The decore is very upscale and has three sections to the club. The bottom floor has the kitchen, bar and dinning room where you can still see the stage from. The next floor is like a big foyer/dancefloor connecting up to the top floor where you can find more room to see and dance with another bar so you don't have to go downstairs. Radio comes out and asks if everyone is ready to break this place in since this is the first night the club is openned. He goes on to say "we need to get some sweat up on the ceilings and do this place right". Michael than breaks into the openning, bouncey acoustic guitar intro to Everyone Deserves Music which is coming around nicely with the full band backing him up and really jamming out the middle of the song. Carl counts off right into the reagge vesion of People In Tha Middle as the crowd lights up the mood and the dancefloors start bobing. Without loosing a beat they ripped right into What Happens Next the place about errupts into a massive dance frenzy. Bob is really starting to sound like he has been working with the band for awhile now and has a special latin influence which fits like a glove in this band. After a short breather, Michael welcomes everyone to the 32 Blue and gives a shout out to Tre' Hardson's band for opening up for them and also for dropping the first notes in this brand new club. Every Single Soul followed with Dave playing very soulfully and then bringing it up into a more rocking pace. Michael also treats us to his poem, "Nature", from the Beatnig days after Dave's 1st solo. Perfect transition into Stay Human with Carl destroying his solo with the new effects pedals he has newly aquirred. After a fairly standard Stay Human, Michael takes a moment so Dave can grab his acoustis guitar for the one of new song, "Never Too Late". The crowd learned the words quickly and joined in with Michael on vocals. Michael then takes another moment to speak about a new song they are going to play. He tells of the time he was in Cuba and while he was thier he realized that it was alot more beautiful and friendlier then everyone had been telling him. He than goes on to say that with this new homeland security act, they want us to spy and tell on each other as we all build up and locking ourselves in these ivory towers to protect ourselves. Just Dave on acoustic with Michael on vocals. Very beautiful and very apropriate with the times we are faced with right now. Michael thanks the crowd for having them in Colorado for the week before leading the band into Yes I Will. Michael throws in a Marley line from "Sun is Shinning" and changes it alittle to, "Sun is Shinning, weather is sweet, Come to Colorado and move my dancing feet". Bob continues on with the keyboard tone that starts off "What I Be" as the band brings up the groove and gets the party bouncing again. The transition into Pray For Grace was smooth and Radio does alittle beatbox solo over the jamming part of the song which sound great and would be a foreshadowing of versions to come! Do Ya Love followed with Michael singing/teasing Michael Jackson's "I wanna Rock with You" towards the end. Michael continues on with another new one that should be on the new album called, "Love Why Did You Have To Go". This song is developing nicely and has a power ballad kind of sound to it starting off soft and slow and ending in a very powerful way/message. The guys stepped it up for the last song of the night, Soulshine. Radioactive emerged from the darkness armed with flutes and mic in hand. After teasing the crowd a couple of times on the flute, Radio sends one out to Blue 32 and says that if everyone dosen't come back to this new venue all the time, they wouldn't come back (jokingly). Radio shows off a new trick where he takes off the mic head and press the mic's diaphram onto his neck and beatboxes. Sounds alittle muffled but a cool concept! Next he plays a little name that tune as he beatboxes Metallica's "One". After three deep breathes, Radio leads the band into Rock the Nation. The sold out crowd picked up where they left off, bouncin' off the walls. Oh My God followed the rather short Rock The Nation with Bob alittle off with the intro but recovering nicely for the rest of the song. Michael gets his acoustic from the guitar tech, Joey, and flows on with a sweet version of Feelin' Free. Michael throws in abit of Marley's, "Exodus" to strengthen the reagge vibe cast from Feelin' Free before tossing in the Love Train verse. Michael then takes a moment to talk about the situations at hand in the world before going into Bomb The World backed by Dave on guitar and Carl and Manas on background vocals. Finally, Michael calls apon Dave for the beginning guitar lick to Sometimes. Bob and Manas trade off chops with Bob breaking off some freaky ass, funkified licks. Dave and Carl are up next and they rip off some more funk for everybody with Michael joinning in with alittle P-Funk action, singing, "Let's Work This Motha Out". Carl shreds another Bass solo until Radio starts in repedive over all ly with, "Shit, Goddamn, get off your ass and jam". Michael and Radio get everyone singing, "32 Blue, 32 Blue, 32 Blue" as he thanks all the waiters/waitresses, cooks and bartenders and the openning band Tre' Hardson and the Legend of the Phoniex. Overall, a great show and even better way to chrisian any new venue!!!!!!

Love Invincible People In Tha Middle What I Be Pray For Grace Oh My God Never Too Late Closer To The Sky Everyone Deserves Music Soul Shine Yes I Will Love Why Did You Have To Go Every Single Soul Stay Human Radioactive Solo Rock The Nation Feelin' Free Words Bomb The World Sometimes
Michael Franti - Vocals, Acoustic Guitar Dave Shul - Electric Guitar Carl Young - Bass Mannas Itiene - Drums Bob Crawford - Keyboards * Radioactive - Human Beat Box * Bob Crawford fills in for Kevin Choice on this show. Review by Dan Kramer (tahoespearit) It poured heavily through out most of the day which was fine by most people in Colorado since they haven't seen this much rain in quite some time. After Tre' Hardson and his band rock the crowd and warmed them up nicely for Spearhead, Radio came out and hyped the crowd up even more before introducing Spearhead. The guys jammed right into Love Invincible with Dave and Bob sound ever so beautiful with thier latin influences. A quick pause then Carl counts into People In Tha Middle, reagge style. A pretty standard version with Carl laying down some thick bass. What I Be jumped out next earlier than in the setlist then ever seen before and fit perfectly as a beginning of the set tune. It was played abit slower than usual but grooved smoothly through the transition into Pray For Grace. Radio freestyles and keeps the soldout crowd going with some call backs and beatboxing. Bob then kicks right into the openning chops to Oh My God. After a short version of Oh My God the band continues with the sing-a-long song, "Never Too Late". "Closer To The Sky", another new one, followed and was rather short but still ever so sweet. "Everyone Deserves Music" was alittle slow aswell but picked up speed towards the end to flow perfectly into "Soulshine". Jaque Duskin from Tre's band sat in on percussion which helps alot to round off the sound of this song. A brief stop then jumping into the original version of "Yes I Will". Dave gives us another tremendous performance on his guitar during the middle of the song and Michael chimes in after with some more Marley verses from "Sun Is Shinning". A strong version of "Love Why Did You Have To Go" came next as Manas really brought the song together with his tight beats and powerful fills. Radio added to the intencity with a thunderous beatbox. Every Single Soul suprized us all so late in the set and featured Jaque on percussion again and Tre' came out to flow some poetry and sing some verses of his own over the song. Very nice and for all of you that only know Tre' from his rapping he also has an incredible singing voice. Stay Human would follow and end the set but not before Carl and Radio would play off each other aswell as Bob and Manas dueling it out for abit. Michael would pass the mic to Radio for a freestyle verse while he catches his breathe. This is one of the only times I've heard the band close the set with Every Single Soul> Stay Human and it was a refreshing change that seemed to fit very well! After the crowd quite down, Radio came out and fooled around with his panflutes for awhile before going into the beatbox part of his routine. Radio once again takes the head off the mic and press the rest of the mic against his neck as he beatboxes before introing, Rock The Nation, as the rest of the band comes out to build up the song. They sounded like they slipped some at the end of the song but Michael gets the Manas and the rest of the band to finish the song double time and it sounds like a punk/thrash version to end it. Michael quickly says he was getting back to his puck roots before grabbing his acoustic and leading the band in a mellow version of Feelin' Free. Although this version was mellow, it also seemed to roll on forever. Michael speaks about W's mission to bomb Iraq and how the children of Iraq suffer because of it before singing his anthem, "Bomb The World". Michael sounds like he is about to end the song but then transitions right into the dub version of the song with the rest of the band joinning in and Radio jumping in with his verses. Bob adds some nice piano playing and the band harmonize beautifully towards the end which fits in superbly. Finally, with time running out quickly, Michael asks Dave for some guitar and off into "Sometimes" we go again. Dave and Carl start a funky jam in between the song and Radio continues to keep the vibes going. Jaque comes out and helps out on percussion one more time as Tre' comes out and dances for everybody. Michael adds some more Marley verses as he sings, "One bright morning when my work is over, I will fly away home". The band brings the energy up one more time before finishing the night's events on a extremely high note. Michael thanks everyone for coming out on a cold, wet school night. Another great show with another great sould out crowd!
