TRANSFER/EDITING NOTES:
I decided to remaster this show because it's an excellent performance which I thought could benefit from a few slight adjustments. I received this recording in what was described as a soundboard recording. After listening to it, it's easier to reach the conclusion that this is an audience recording. Give-aways included the echo form the drums and vocals, the level of audience applause and the voices that can be heard clearly usually between songs. Much to my pleasure, there is very little audience noise while the band is actually playing. For an audience recording, this one would rate as fantastic in my books. I think this is the first audience recording from the 70's that I've given an A rating to. At first, one might be fooled into believing this is a soundboard recording. Nevertheless, this is a case where being recorded in the audience benefits the sound quality instead of hindering it. Most of what you're hearing is coming from the PA, which explains the relatively high echo & vocal level. Other than that, this recording is very well balanced. It sounds like the taper must have been very well centered or was using excellent recording equipment with a lot of technical knowledge of recording in a venue such as the Odeon. All instruments are heard well throughout the recording. In remastering this recording, I simply altered a few frequencies to produce a crisper, clearer sound. A thin layer of muddy sound is on the original. Some may hear it, others may not. Nevertheless, I removed a few mid-range frequencies that were resonating badly and boosted a few low-end frequencies as well as some frequencies around 12k to add more bass, drums and guitar. Given the PA is the main source of this recording, the vocals are relatively loud. I have remedied this inbalance slightly. Hope you enjoy this one, I do. Here are The Clash, in all their live glory!
