As the original notes indicate, this show was shaping up to be a pretty good recording, but the taper obviously had some sort of major equipment malfunction after "You Gotta Be Crazy". Of the remainder of the first set, only a small part of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is present on this tape, bookended by some sort of strange high-frequency squeal under which more music is faintly audible. After this we get the first few songs of the Dark Side set (featuring our special guest "Sit the f*** down!!"), before a tape cut at the end of "On the Run" finishes matters off. Still, what we have sounds pretty good, and at least the opening two songs are complete.
Note that there's supposedly a 2nd gen version of this around which has a snippet of "Have a Cigar", and possibly more of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". It wouldn't surprise me if the taper got a lot more of the first set, but it also wouldn't surprise me if that additional recording was all covered up by the high-frequency squeal that concludes "Shine On". Anyone know for sure?
The original fileset I got was pretty good, but it had a couple glitches, ran too fast, and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" had been moved to the wrong place in the setlist. Thus, here are the changes made to this version:
1) Removed repeated material in "Shine On" and small glitch between "R&D" and "YGBC"
2) Moved "Shine On" to its proper location in setlist (after YGBC)
3) Speed correction applied to all tracks (-5%)
If there are any additional glitches that I missed, do forgive me.
Finally, note that this concert was apparently filmed by Pink Floyd, but the footage was never used. I'd heard in the past that the problem was that the film was too dark; more recently, however, I've read that the problem was that the audio was no good. It's a pity that the taper didn't capture the whole show -- after all, imagine if, say, Millard had taped this one: the band probably could dub his audio onto their film, and no one would bat an eye!
