J-Card Comment:

Here's a GREAT John Hiatt show that I picked up from etree late month. Unfortunately, the torrent over there got pulled before I was able to make a note who recorded/shared it...so if you're reading this and it's your recording, please step forward and take a bow! And more importantly, thanks again for recording and sharing it!

I absolutely LOVE this particular Hiatt show...great songs, great banter, great performance...and for the most part, a great recording!
The only problem was that the volume level on the original recording was a bit on the low side, most PARTICULARLY the parts where Hiatt talks between the songs. (Some of his banter was hard to hear even with headphones.)

Because I enjoyed this show so much, and because I wanted to address the volume issue without bastardizing the original recording, I literally spent HOURS working on this edited version. (How many hours? Well, easily over 10 hours...maybe 15-20 hours...I'm serious!) The main issue was boosting the volume of the between-song banter without it sounding artificially raised/enhanced, and to a lesser extent it included increasing the songs' volume but not to a point where the bass (which is occasionally heavy in the mix) would become distorted.

In the end, I think I achieved my goal. It's now much easier to hear Hiatt's banter without having to strain or crank the volume knob, and now the volume on the quieter songs more closely matches the volume of the louder, more rocking songs. Overall, I think everything blends together quite well now. If you decide to download this edited version of the show, I hope you'll agree. It's a great show. Enjoy! TheCommish
