J-Card Comment:

this was the 1st US tour for then 21 year old SinÈad who was riding the
hugely popular debut album "the lion and the cobra".
at the time of this posting (late March 2012) there was just one other earlier
USA SinÈad show, five days before this one from March 26th at the World in N.Y.C.
eight songs played in this broadcast are heard in that (studio) record, all
except for the Smiths one, including all three of the ones that became singles.
if an Irish artist wants to make it big in the USA Boston is a good place to start.
there's a very large Irish population in Boston area, it was one of the first places
beyond Ireland that U2 became hugely popular, and SinÈad O'Connor also became
very popular in short time in the Little Ireland of New England.
her second album, "I do not want what I haven't got" wasn't released until 1990,
including probably her most popular hit around here, "nothing compares to you"
there is a live video recorded just a couple of months later (June 3, 1988)
at the Dominion Theater in London UK with seven songs from the debut album,
and another one called "the year of the horse" recorded in Brussels and Rotterdam
in late Oct. 1990, and a couple of others recorded in the 2000's.

Comment
This is a stunning early concert from Sinead's first tour in the U.S. in support of her debut album, "The Lion and the Cobra".

FM broadcast on WBCN. Also, circulates as a rare bootleg of unknown pedigree known as "Paradiso" (and which, oddly, also includes a 1995 concert)

A special feature is "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle", a Smith's song which never Sinead never recorded for an album.
Other highlights: "Never Get Old" includes a recital of the 91st Psalm in Gaelic by Eithne Ni Bhraonain (Enya) via digital sampler; Sinead playing 12-string on "Troy"; and, best of all, Sinead's own passionate, sassy self and goofy humor.

According to a college newspaper review, there were a couple of songs in the set that were not included in the broadcast: "Jump In the River" and another song (poss. "The Value of Ignorance"?).

Band:
Sinead O'Connor, vocals, guitar
Andy Rourke, bass (ex-Smiths)
Mike Joyce, drums (ex-Smiths)
