J-Card Comment:

A very good, and underated show/performance from the group.

The band are playing quite well, and Plant's voice is on the mend from the flu he was suffering from at the beginning of the tour.

Nothing has beeen done to this recording in terms of remastering, EQ'ing, or noise/hiss reduction, all that has been done to this tape in terms of editing is some nescessary tape speed correction.

Originally the whole recording was running way too fast, and needed to be slowed down.

This is a pretty decent upgrade to alot of the previous versions/releases that have been released into circulation, I not only include bootleg versions in that comparisson, but low gen versions as well.

This version (compared to previous releases/transfers we've heard posted online), this version has alot more clarity and balance in the instruments and vocals than previous releases have, other ones I've heard have very muddy vocals, and a distorted sound to the instruments.

The improvement in sound could be due to the fact that the copying of the cassettes used in this release was done in the late 1980's (possibly before some deterioration set into the tapes), and the transfer to CD-R was done in the early 90's, or the transfer was done on good equipment.

However, like other versions of this show that have been posted online, this recording does have the excessive tape hiss in both channels, and the tape recorder hum, but it's not as dominant as it is on other releases.

Another fault of this recording is that it is incomplete, missing the very final encore of the night "What Is And What Should Never Be".

Some releases have this song, and others don't, this version does not have it.

There's been alot of debate about the legitimacy of this song actually being played as the final encore of the night, and whether or not it's actually from Aberdeen and not some other performance and recording, but the general consensus now is that the song was actually played that night.

During their winter 1973 tour of the U.K, the band added alot of material they had previously retired to their repetoire, possibly to spice things up, or reward a crowd they liked, examples of this are "Immigrant Song" from Bradford, (1-18-73), and "How Many More Times" from Southampton, (1-22-73).

So the idea of the band playing "What Is And What Should Never Be" at this point and time in their career isn't too strange...it's strange that it was played as the final encore because the song really doesn't have the weight and impact of being a "closing song", but that's on them.

For those that may not know, this show has an interesting story behind it's one and only bootleg release ("The A-15). When it was released by the TDOLZ label, it was mislabeled as being the groups performance in Rotterdam, Holland, on March, 11th, 1973, but that's false.

How it was discovered that this performance is actually Aberdeen is a mystery to me, but I think it was found out to be Aberdeen by a comment made by Plant during the show before the band plays "Heartbreaker".

He sounds like he's saying "Aberdeen" to the audience.

The confusion about this recording has never been a factor for myself though because this show was sent and labeled as being Aberdeen, not Rotterdam when I recieved it in the 1980's.

Hope everyone here will enjoy this.~ acapulcogold
