J-Card Comment:

Description: Now here's one that may not circulate that much, a low generation, complete audience tape from the last show of the Sound and Vision Tour. A commonly circulating set is the FM version of this show, but it is truncated down to around 35 minutes. This is the whole show, in very good quality, full stereo sound. There is a small cut in the beginning of China Girl, and there are some channel separation issues toward the end of the first set but they don't detract from the listening experience. I would have normalized but I'll leave to those more skilled than me to take that on.....Panic In Detroit also has a small cut within the song.

As was the case later in the Sound and Vision Tour, Bowie cuts the setlist down to the bare minimum, but it's a good performance. Funny moment before Life on Mars where Bowie emphasizes how the song is to be performed this night for the last time.

It is hard to believe this tour was twenty years ago. I personally saw a few shows on this tour, since I was in college at the time I got to see the Dodger Stadium show in late May in Los Angeles, then returned home to the Northeast, and caught Foxboro and Hartford later in July. My thought at the time which still holds was wishing Bowie had used just a couple of more musicians in this band, if he had it would have been really incredible. I thought all along it was one or two musicians short, despite Adrian Belew's ability to fill in the gaps. This issue of course was remedied a few years later with the Outside Tour band! Still, some of the best versions of Jean Genie are found on this tour, and Belew's Stay solos are still my favorite to this day.
