When taping, position is generally everything, sure equipment has an affect, but it's possible to get better results with reasonable equipment in a better spot than if you have top end gear but you are situated in a crappy space sound wise. With all venues, there's usually a sweet spot and with general admission, one can find it.
With seated shows like this one, if you don't get in quick, you can't obtain a seat that will give the best results. We bought late, so ended up the back of the hall about 50 metres back. Given this, it's still not a bad result, but lacking a bit of presence because of the distance we were from the stage. The audience were quiet, but the goon next to me asked me to stop tapping my foot in time to the music which pissed me off no end, mein gott, this is a rock show even !!!!!!

A great show, the Steely Dan band features some awesome players and the playing is as usual superb.
