J-Card Comment:

Not too shabby, quite enjoyable AUD with some vocal distortion at times. Check samples for critical analysis or fleeting anticipatory ear ecstasy.
::: Warts: Bit o' de ol' hiss. Some distortion at times from poor taping equipment and/or PA as vocal mikes seem over-driven. 1.5 secs of mike cutout deleted near end of #1. #2 cuts right at end. 3 split seconds of tape drag at end of #10 & a couple elsewhere in the tape (NOT problematic, very brief - portable reel machine and/or aging sticky master tape issues). Some dullspots/dropouts unrepairable but fixed many of them. MANY issues resolved thru remastering!
::: Thanks to DIMER gv0000 & further research I did, we now know the originally traded November 16 date is incorrect. gv0000 has an ad & review of JA Electric Factory, 2 shows (4:30 & 8:00), Sunday November 17, 1968. Kantner also mentions Donovan must be on TV "right about now" & he was on 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour' on November 17, which also makes this the evening show.
::: Philadelphia band The American Dream opened.
::: "Crown Of Creation" was recorded FebñJune & released in September 1968.
::: I didn't have a 'recent/common' circulating digital source to compare to. This is from my cassette acquired in late 80s(?).

CoolSonics 284 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders & to DIMER gv0000 for date research assist! ::: Corrections welcome ::: This recording is a whole new listen for me after remastering, especially with speed correction & many volume issues & glitches repaired. Nice early version of "Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon" with unusual arrangements in parts. In fact, a number of the songs have somewhat unusual arrangements, though this is in part due to the paucity of this vintage JA & the time period is undoubtably one of their best. AUD noise is quite low & ambience is weird at times as things seem somewhat informal & almost rehearsal-like to me in places. Seems like Jorma's guitar goes quite out of tune by the end of the "Philly Jam". "Star Track" is certainly a treat. Dryden is drivin' some songs in very energetic fashion. Check it out. ENJOY!

Kudos to Zongo for life support, Lochner for mikes&more & Fast Freddie for runnin' Video Dick's Record Emporium with the bathroom office full of tape decks. Thanks to Hanwaker (few among us can keep his pace). Mountains of gratitude to Davmar, D.White, Sanchez, Elliot, The Florida Kid, Kloiber, Zingg, JTW, Bershaw, Boston Gold, Dixon, Moore, Gough & SO many more for all that collecting & sharing... Royal thanks to The Man In The Palace, Doc Tinker, Brinkhoffs, Barely Eatin', Reel Master Gaule, Parrish & all the traders who housed me thru my music acquisition & travel years. Hats off to Brother Kent, Uncle Jake, Little Queenie (& her neighbor Frank) & his honor Ptomaine Thomas. Glasses raised to Byron for musical horizon expansion & much obliged to J & Thurston for keepin' my concert fires burnin' since my continental shift. Thanks to the Mods for keepin' DIME alive. Enjoy, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
