From Siege's 1969 page:
Details: This is the most puzzling recording I have. Although it's supposedly from the August 13th, 1968 Fillmore West show, I don't believe there's any way that date is correct. However, I truly have no clue where it comes from and dating it has been impossible, especially since no stage dialogue is left. The overall sound of the performance is reminiscent of the first U.S. tour from 1969 and it sounds like they're playing to an American audience, despite the fact that no other versions of 'A Quick One' or 'My Generation' are known from that tour; the absence of Tommy material would also be hard to explain, unless the taper chose not to record any of it. It's doubtful the recording is from the second 1968 U.S. tour, given Townshend's more adventurous lead work in 'Heaven and Hell' and the stretched-out 'Magic Bus' intro. So I'm sticking it here. Anyway, it's a very strong performance, with Townshend playing some great lead in 'Heaven and Hell' to start off the show and then an inadvertent third repeat of the chorus in 'I Can't Explain'. But the most notable and surprising aspect of this one is the very strange reading of 'My Generation'—at the climax of a short jam, Townshend tunes the low string down, then slowly up again before going directly into the main theme of 'Shakin' All Over' without the usual intro. A long guitar lead-in to 'Magic Bus' seems to give at least a small clue as to the time period of this show, but it cuts after less than four minutes. I'm very curious to know the real story on this recording, if anyone knows it.
