OldNeumanntapr 1987 was the first Grateful Dead Shoreline shows. They were scheduled to play there in '86, right after Ventura, but that entire tour was cancelled when Jerry went into the hospital. I still have the advertisement from the pink section of the SF Chronicle from the aborted Shoreline '86 shows, as well as the GDTS information sheet from Ventura '86. (I had to send in my mail order tix for a refund.) A lot of people dislike Shoreline, but I always thought that the sound there was amazing. Being a taper, that was alway my first concern. I have way too many boomy audience masters from the Oakland Coliseum. I remember hearing stories of people who dropped their cigarettes on the grass in the general admission area of Shoreline that started small methane fires from all the decomposing garbage underneath. I think I still have my bootleg 'Dead At The Dump' T shirt. I remember that these shows were pretty good. This was the show that I met my friend Ron, who would forever be 'Taper Ron'. He patched into my Sony TC-153SD up on the lawn. Those first Shoreline audience masters still sound pretty good even today, but I'm missing the last part of the saturday second set after I loaned out the master and never got it back. Big mistake!
