Emily Man, this show was awesome all-around! We got to be in the very very front row... so close you could see every string they plucked, every key and drum they hit, it was just amazing. Being this close really added to the intimacy STS9 tries to project in their shows. With the painters, the tons of flowers, and all the geodes and everything else they crammed onto the tiny stage at irving, it felt like we were at some sort of neo-bohemian house/loft party and only the coolest kids were invited... You see, i go to a fair amount of shows at irving plaza, and this may have been the greatest assortment of people yet. Having only seen sound tribe twice, both at festivals, i really had no idea what to expect. But i met quite a few genuinely great people (and of course a few obnoxious pointy-toe-shoe girls who, for the life of me, i could not figure out why they were there... maybe for the $6 cans of low-grade beer?) aaah, when hippies rule the world...
Anyway, i digress. It is about the MUSIC, right? Right? ooooh yea it is!
So from the second the music started, everyone just started boogie-ing on down. That was great. A couple of times i was tired and just wanted to stand for a second, but seeing everyone else so into the music, dancing probably without even thinking, i just couldn't stand still for more than a few beats. I wish i could go into detail with the songs they played and how superbly they played each and every one, but that would take up too much space and in the end the point would be this: this show rocked my socks off. Judging from everyone else around me, it rocked nearly everybody in that tiny, sweaty, smelly little venue's socks off. Rocked them way off to mars or jupiter even. Lots of cold feet that night...
