What an amazing night! Because it was General Admission people were packed otgether on the floor, leaving the actual seats around the arena half empty. The crowded feeling on the floor gave things a greater intimacy somehow. One of the best performances ever from one of Bob's best bands. I felt honored to be standing just a few feet from The Man as he sang "I Shall Be Released." That's something I'll never forget.
This show has some of the earliest performances of the Love & Theft songs, all of them crackling with energy (check out "Lonesome Day Blues" in particular).
My copy of the show has an unfortunate few seconds during "My Back Pages" where a fan gets a little loud and the taper is telling him to shut up. It's worth hearing once just for a laugh, but now I just skip over the song.
"Masters of War" and "Blowin' in the Wind" were timely choices, and the crowd was behind Bob and his pleas for peace.
Aside from the boneheaded taper arguing with the fan enjoying himself, this is a fantastic audience recording ('A+' aside from the arguing) and gets my highest recommendation. |
