This is a raw footage work print of an unsold TV pilot made for British TV in 1970 or 1971. It is hosted by Michael Parkinson and being a work print it has many stops and starts, some retakes, false starts, etc? and a few brief segments are repeated as well. It's a look at the current state of the music industry. Among those featured in this footage are Soft Machine, Alexis Korner, Frank Zappa, Marmalade, Fairport Convention, Free, Legendary DJ John Peel, and many more After a brief introduction, the show starts with an acoustic piece by Alexis Korner followed by an interview and another song, "Rock Me?", Then a Dave Swarbrick interview with some live footage of Fairport Convention, Madeline Bell talks about Gospel Music, Marmalade perform "Can You Help Me" and one other song in studio and interview segments are cut into the song, brief Frank Zappa interview, Hugh Hopper, Elton Dean, Mike Ratledge, and Robert Wyatt interviews are interspersed with a Soft Machine performance, Marmalade is shown recording at Decca Recording Studios, Comments On the recording industry by Frank Zappa, John Peel, and others. Songwriter Tony MacCaulay talks about songs he's had hits with such as "Love Grows" and "Smile A Little Smile". A Look at BBC Radio producers and playlists, Free in the studio performing "All Right Now" interspersed with interviews, Frank Zappa talks about publicity, Joe Cocker is shown performing "Something", A Look at the sales charts and "song pluggers". On June 27 and 28, 1970, a touring rock and roll show commonly referred to as the “Festival Express” opened in Toronto. Toronto was the first of three stops of a moveable musical feast; whereas most music festivals of the time were held in a single location, the Festival Express moved from Toronto to Winnipeg and then on to Calgary, with many of the performers including Janis Joplin, The Band, and the Grateful Dead travelling between venues on a Canadian National train chartered by the festival’s organizers.
