Comments: The first version of this source was transfered via analogue tape to cdr, with a lesser sound quality than this final version which is transfered digitally. The lesser quality version is easily recognized on Hey Jane being the last track of disc one. It was a "mellow", but very psychedelic day, as always in Darmstadt. One of those shows that make you forget time and place. Highlights: The best of the three performances of Fade To Grey on this tour. Landslide is particularly beautiful (with some classical song inside?). Song For A Bro' is far out. All Is Loneliness is very weird and spooky, and My Best Friend has a great intro and very special middle jam.

Comments: Another fantastic show. It left me completely empty, and I had to sit by my self in a corner afterwards trying to slowly get back to real life again. This night was part of a festival organized by the Democrazy club to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Motorpsycho played second, after Zen Guerilla. Fifty Foot Combo closed the bill. The setlist included Painting the Night Unreal, but it wasn't played. Highlights: Long and mighty 577, the second and last Supertristano of the tour, and the extended Fools Gold. But the rest of the gig isn't bad either...

Bent and Snah tried a new amp setup this night. Snah later said he had to learn how to play every song in a new way since everything sounded different to what he was used to. His usual techniques sounded all different, so they had to be changed for new ones on the fly. The change in the setup was one of those things which sounded very cool during the soundcheck but felt shite when on stage later on, he said. It frustrated him a lot that night. But I guess they liked the sound of the new setup when they got used to it, as they kept it for the rest of the tour. Highlights: My Best Friend takes once again a new direction, just incredible. The only Painting The Night Unreal of the tour is also a treat.

Comments: This was a beautiful 300 capacity club with a balcony and trendy (but still cosy) interior. It was at least half full, and that is twice as many people as last time in Paris. The audience was very into it, and screamed for more all the time and even applauded inside songs, after loud parts and after solos. This was in fact one of the most appreciative audiences I have seen in a long time! Once again the Core Sound/dat combi produced an amazing recording. Highlights: Song For A Bro' started with a smooth 3 minunte jam as they worked their way into the main theme, B?rds solo was dropped, and they did some really funky stuff during the last tschugga-tschugga bridge before they ended it. I just love these surprises! Tristano was yet again changed around, and played really fast. Bent started it right after You Lied, but they did not float into it like when played in combination with other songs. Snah hammered his guitar with a slide and made a lot of crazy sounds together with B?rd. Somewhere just before the top Bent sung some lines never heard before, he repeated them again with the whole band joining in on this apparently new song working the Tristano riffs into it, before they all returned to Tristano as we know it and ended it with a bang! Jawdropping. Apparently a version of Tristano has been made into a "proper" song and demoed with these lyrics. Neverland has developed as well. It is slightly different here and there, and it is even tighter and more rocking than before. They have certainly worked on their singing on this one. She Used To Be A Twin was on the setlist, but was not played. Instead they did the extended version of Fools Gold, and the audience even managed to shut up during the quiet parts. A once in a lifetime experience:-)

Comments: Bent started the night calling themselves Mellowpsycho, and that is a very good description of this night. It was what I would call the most phanerocaked show of the tour. The atmosphere is very nice and relaxed, and even though there is some talking in the audience from time to time, the recording turned out amazingly good. This was the only performances of Big Surprise and She Used To Be A Twin during the 2002 spring tour. It was also the third and last time we heard Circles. Highlights: The beautiful and acoustic Blueberry Daydream, another very cool My Best Friend with an exciting middle jam, Circles, She Used To Be A Twin, the first Hogwash of the tour (funkier than ever before), and the first Into The Sun of the tour.

Comments: This is a 1000 capacity club, and the audience counted about 30 poeple at the start of the gig including the local crew, and around 70 when it ended... Due to the big, but rather empty hall, the acoustics are not very good (they've got a certain hollow quality to them), thus the 8 in sound instead of 9. I was very curious about what the first Spanish MP show ever would be like, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the tour to these ears. The guys were very relaxed and in a very good mood, and some of the jams got quite long and spaced out. As you might have found out by now: I like that! Highlights: My Best Friend! 23 min of spaced out noisy motorfloyding... So incredibly cool, it's beyond words. Landslide, 577 and Pills, Powders & Passionplays are trippy and excellent as well. Also on the setlist, but (luckilly) not played: The Slow Phaseout, Never Let You Out, The Other Fool. These were meant to be the first encores, but were dropped due to time limitations.

Comments: Powerful performance! Very good sound, but the quiet parts are marred by audience noise. This was an indoor festival celebrating the jubilee of a record store. The spanish band Electra played first, Motorpsycho second, while the welsh Gorky's Zygotic Mincy headlined. Highlights: Song For A Bro' is up there with some of the best versions from last year (my favorites being Athens, & Darmstadt). Psychonaut is also freaked out, it has quite a different jam in the end compared to the "normal" versions of this tour.

Comments: Nice pub! It was even smaller than Glaz'art in Paris 2001. There was no place for guitar technicians or monitor engineers, and Bent and Snah tuned their own guitars as the night went along. This resulted in some cool long intros for Superstooge and You Lied, as Snah was not ready when Bent started those songs. Go To California has a piano solo, but no guitar solo. Highlights: Superstooge and You Lied with their cool intros.

Comments: It's always good to be back in Germany! While the travelling fans later on debated whether Amsterdam 24.04.02 was better than Groningen 11.04.02, Bent held Mannheim as his favorite... Highlights: On My Pillow is supersweet with B?rd noodling around on the piano before the rest of the guys are ready, making a nice intro to the best version of the song for this tour. The Other Fool is unusually powerful and tight, and represents another best of the tour performance. The last 50 minutes of the main set (from ?berwagner through Tristano) are a mindblowing spacetrip which takes you to some of the greatest versions of these songs ever. Song For A Bro' gets another good take. This one had a slow start this tour, but really startes to shine again by now. Both 577, Tristano and Bro' have B?rd humming along in passages of exquisite beauty... Alex says: what a great show! the versions of "577" & "tristano" are far out! just wonderful! highly recommended! great sound & heavenly performance!

Comments: The best setlist of the tour, but rather average performance. Highlights: Fade To Grey is better than usual with Snah doing some squeaky sounds instead of the normally boring picking. 577, although pretty short, is supersweet, with lots of subtle keys and a very good interplay between the keys and the guitar during the crescendo. Hogwash is an amazing spaceout!

Comments: A very good end to the tour. The main set is great, and contains some very strong performances. The first batch of cheesy encores ruins a perfect night. The Into The Sun/Tristano combination is a very nice surprise!

Comments: Quite a special gig where they once again bring in 4 people from Jaga Jazzist on horns. Some worked excellent, and some didn't work at all. This was Motorpsycho's first performance at this jazzfestival; the festival itself was in its 42nd year. Highlights: Everything from Song For A Bro' through Landslide. Review: The sports hall is packed to the rim with a mostly younger audience than I usually see at MP concerts, around 2000 people all together. Most people have to stand, but I cued up 2 hours before the doors opened and secured a seat right behind the soundboard. The wide stage is on the other long wall, and there are a few rows of seats along the two short walls as well. Firts off a 2 minute montage of video and sound by official festival artist Arne N?st is projected on different sized screens above the stage. This guy is also responsible for the layout of the whole venue, which very much succeeds in taking away the sports hall feeling. Then infamous music journalist Arild R?nsen gives a nice introduction of the band(s). They walk on stage. B?rd to the far left behind two keyboards, the melotron and a grand piano, then Bent with only one cabinet. The four Jazzists, tuba-sax-trumpet-flute, take center stage, but rather far back, and to their right stands a pair of congas (hm, wonder who they are meant for?). Snah is to the right with his usual setup plus the old Moog which I haven't seen since 1999 before B?rd joined. Geb is somewhat hidden behind Snah, and I fail to see him most of the evening even if I'm sitting in the supposedly best seat in the house. While plugging in the bass and thanking the audience for being there, Bent remarks that last time they played in Molde (11 years ago) 18 people paid to see them... ?berwagner was loud and powerful, and worked fine with the horns. Go To California has been played so much better before without the flute solo, and this renedition was very similar to the Oslo 2001 flute solo version. We got no guitar or piano solos here... The Other Fool was good, but no highlight. The horns were more audible in the mix by now, but seemed to be a little lost and unsecure here and there. Song For A Bro' starts the jamming section with a blistering guitar job from Snah, while the sax taking over doesn't sound too convincing. However they collectively manage to pick things up and end up with a stormer of a version with a great trumpet solo and lots of nice work from B?rd and Snah. Even Morten Fagervik, who is the guitar technician in the absence of Turbo (who is working with A-HA these days), joins in on the congas, and they are 9 people on stage! Theme De Yoyo is nothing short of a masterpiece, and I hope they keep this one for a long time, even after the Jazzists have gone home. It's a very upbeat funky thing with lots of great jams and interplay between the band and the horns. It's incredibly jazzy with some cool vocals sung by Bent, completly out of his range, but nevertheless he goes for it. I start to realize that this evening is going to be somewhat special after all. Ebony Queen has B?rd doing a repetitive weird theme on the grand piano, while the rest jazz like madmen. It's probably my favorite among the covers this night. The cool thing is that this stuff gives way for the Jazzists to shine, and not just acompany the rockers, but actually play a main role. And Snah, that guy, he just eats of their hands and creates some really great and amazing sounds. Just incredible, as is Gebs playing. The beautiful John Coltrane piece Tunji is more downbeat, starting off with some gentle basswork from Bent, with Snah, Geb and B?rd carefully joining in before the sax takes over and brings us to the climax supported by a steady tuba groove. Excellent and beautiful beyond words. Back to more known stuff: The loudest, but still most beautiful version ever of Upstairs/Downstairs is up next. Once again the tuba sets a magic mood, Snah sings more fragilely than ever and the horns really shine. Landslide once again sees B?rd behind the grand piano, a sound that adds another dimension to this song. A tasteful trumpet solo is added after the last verse, and another highlight of the show is a fact. The rearranged Neverland has only once before been aired (April 15/4-02 in Paris), and that was the best version ever, regardless of versions. But in Molde it was probably the worst performance I've heard. They struggled to keep the thing together, and the horns seemed not to follow the rest at all. Only plus: B?rd's cool organ sound. Walkin' With J. suffered the same destiny as Neverland. No one took responsibility, the jam never happened, and the horns fell off the wagon. Thinking of the great 10 min versions which ended up in Miles Davis' So What during the 2000 tour, tonights fumbling performance ended up being the weakest I've seen. One would be tempted to believe that the longest Tristano in history would be as close as one could come to heaven without passing away for good. Unfortunately it really didn't go anywhere tonight, and although several smaller climaxes came along, the big bang never happened. The attempts to integrate the horns ruined the buildup several times, and not even Snah with his scary Moog or the trumpeter with his double bass could save the song from a cold landing when Bent called it quits after 18 minutes, confusing Geb who actually wanted to take it further once more. The Sun Ra encore Space Is The Place was a nice end to a funny night. I never understood the magic of this one, irritating as it is. But we got a few cool sounds and solos (The Moog sounds from Snah saved it for me), and a lot of smilig faces, handclaps and sing-a-longs. The most positive thing: B?rd is again given something to do when the Jazzists are there. Last year he ended up doing virtually nothing while they took all his parts. In Molde he did a tremendous job, and contributed vastly to the success of the night. Another positive thing is Snah. He is so alive, and he plays very good.

Not sure what you mean, but it's cable FM radio, recorded and produced by NRK Petre and broadcasted 16.October 2002. I recorded with an analog cable from my Denon AVR2700 reciever to my Soundblaster Live Player 1024 soundcard, using Sound Forge 4.0d software. Announcer intro and outro and three jingles where removed using the same software and then the wave-file was split into tracks with CD-wave. And I think I used Nero (Got several CD-writer programs installed) to create the weed CD's on Verbatim CD-r's. The concert were performed 10th August 2002 at ?yafestivalen, Middelalderparken, Oslo, and parts of Jaga Jazzist joined Motorpsycho on stage on all 9 tracks. Unlike the first broadcast of the show from late August which had 4 songs missing (*), this broadcast was complete. The 2nd broadcast also had slightly different mix than the first one. There is some background noise on the recording, but that is from the petre master, as neither the music before, after, announcer intro nor outro had this background noise.

Comments: Indoor clubgig. Splendid show. The Jaga Jazzists were down to three people by now (flute - sax - trumpet). They left the Tuba-lady at home. The horns did not play on Sinful and Vortex, but played a big part in the middle part of Pills & Powders making it into a little something else. I felt like listening to a herd of elephants escaping the zoo during the transition from Superstooge to Tristano:-) Highlights: Theme De Yoyo (very tight!). Rock n' roll jamfest! Or as Paulino said after the show: "This being the second show of the tour can only mean two things: Either they won't top it, or they'll tear down every venue they play from now on." In retrospect, although I was floored that night, Skien doesn't make my top 5 of this tour, but that says more about the tour than about Skien... The setlist had ?berwagner and Nothing To Say as the first encores, but they were not played. Highlights: The premier of Close Your Eyes. It starts out like something that could have been on Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, continues with vintage motor-droning, and ends with something that could come right off an lp of early Yes. The vibe is very early 70's, and pure progrock to these ears. This masterpiece would have fitted perfectly on Angels & Daemons or even Trust Us. It beats the shit out of any song on It's A Love Cult. For Free is rearranged again, and this is how it sounded if released on Blissard instead of Phanerothyme, I guess. It kicks so much ass, I had no clue there was so much ass around to kick! My Best Friend is another 17 minutes of Motorfloyd. Good intro, good singing, very powerful middle section, good jam, good drive, good Snah, great spaceout. You think you've heard it all before, but you haven't! STG is as hardrocking and noisy as back in 97. It ends up in One More Daemon going through a blissard of feedback. Jawdropping. Dora Peach has a cool drum intro. The start of s' Numbness gets fucked up by Snah's wrongly tuned guitar. They take a 42 sec break to let Snah tune, and continue the song where they stopped with Bent screaming out "It doesn't really bother me!". Great moment. Tristano is different every night. Here you get 13 minutes with so much power, it's absurd!

The vibe is always good in Bremen, the audience always behaves, no talk during the songs (not even when Bent goes for the acoustic one), but ovations after every song. The receptions is just fabulous, and you can see that the band immensely appreciates finally being amongst 1200 true friends. So we get what we always get in Bremen: A great and long set, with lots of smiles and lots of energy from the stage. As always at Schlachthof it strikes me that this band seems to be a different one to the one I know from back home. I see them smiling and happy putting in that little extra. The fantastic feeling of being together with 1200 fellow genuinly interested fans, every single one smiling from ear to ear, everyone diggig the music, and everyone focusing on what happens on stage, nothing else, is undescribable after having spent a week among imbecilic Norwegian crowds. Sound quality: The sound is clear and undisturbed by audience noise, but one channel slightly overpowers more or less throughout. On my stereo it doesn't bother me, but it is very noticeable in headpones and on bigger and better stereos than mine (like Alex' stereo:-). Highlights: Close Your Eyes, the first All Is Loneliness of the tour, and the Superunreal combo. Alex says: "starmelt" saw its tour-premiere here as well. i was rather surprised to learn that this particular bremen recording did not turn out as great as the one from 2001. although the set-up & the equipment were almost the same there is a huge difference between the 2001 & the 2002 recording:. while the 2001 bremen recording was the best audience tape from the "phanerothyme" tour the 2002 tape might just be the poorest recording from the "love cult" tour [apart from ?rhus and frankfurt]. even bergen with its fucked up sound at the garage sounds better. that doesn't spoil the *great* performance, though. a great show, heavily on the guitar-side of MP, it is a vivid flashback to 1997/98 elevating it to the best MP-show i saw this year (out of 10). supersweet is the extended intro to "577" (though not on intention, lol) as is the first "vs" i heard since april 2000. another highlight is the transition between "superstooge" & "unreal". not as radical as halden or wien ["superstooge"& "hogwash"] it has the same abstract & heavy vibe, though. Summary: the poor sound makes this recording a "you had to be there" affair. there are many better "love cult" shows to get. still, it is better than most shows from the second half of the tour (i.e. complete italy).
