1st one- "Once you hear Phish- Life is never the same" |

Compared with all the Phish concerts I had seen circa 1990 to 1992, this concert seemed strangely subdued. At this point, I guess, the band were morphing from the wild fusion of the 1990 - 1992 era to the more laid back generic stoner jam style of their later years (pick any 1991 concert and compare it to any 2000 concert - I rest my case). Down With Disease comes early and fast and jams out with a decent amount of energy. But that was early in the first set and the energy level never picks back up after that. Not a bad concert, just not as intense as other earlier shows. Listening back now 10 years later, it sounds pleasant enough. I travelled to this concert with a couple of friends of mine, and one made a conspicuous comment on the concert by actually falling asleep. I was standing, dancing to the music and I turned and there on the seats behind me was my friend - snoring away, mouth open and drawing flies. This was a first in my experience - seeing someone asleep at a Phish concert! The other memorable part of this trip (pun intended) was some smelly old hippy accosting us outside the Olympic Center trying to sell us "double dipped Jerries." |
