Reconstruction

It was reported in 08/2022 that "I can add a couple things for the notes. This was a two set show. The first set started with Getting Better, followed by Someday Baby, Fast Tone, What I Would Not Do (not sure about that song title), The Jealous Kind and I'll Take a Melody. Second set started with Tellin' My Friends.

Also, it was one of rowdiest crowds I ever experienced in a Dead-related setting. There is a complete audience recording of the show, but it's a bit rough."

Reconstruction: hodgepodge of 6/16 and 6/22 material; MSC > PCM > DAT > CDR > EAC > WAV > MKW > SHNv3, by Dan Carr. Note: textfile incorrectly suggests that this is less complete than the previously circulating .shn set. This looks to be the same material, but without the actual song names, tracked differently, and with a clearer lineage.

Thoroughly Amazing ! Especially, "A Lovely Night For Dancin" at the end of the first set and "I'll Take A Melody" was the best I ever heard ! "Dear Prudence", the instrumental "Fast Tone" was jammin' too.
As well as that pop tune "What You Would Not Do For Love" that is still played these days on Top 40 radio. When occasionally I over hear someone else listening to it on such a station, I immediately think of this show, because it was played by BETTER by Reconstruction than the studio recording, apparently by some guy named Bobby Caldwell I think ? Something I've been wondering about all these years since that this show every time I hear a stranger listening to it, But never it seems, in a situation that I can find out much about it. Oh well, it's only a song.
Most of the rest of the show was pretty good too, like usual Garcia material such as "Someday Baby" and "That's What Love Will Make You Do". The Santa Monica Civic is a relatively small place but not a night club. I saw many a great band there of jazz and rock, such as Return To Forever, Shakti (John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussein), Sea Level (An offshoot of Allman Brothers Band), Marshall Tucker Band etc.
It's not particularly important but, after New Years' 78-79; when Garcia's white Travis Bean guitar with "The enemy is listening" sticker on it, was stolen he returned to playing the first Doug Irwin guitar. ie. the one the the wolf cartoon on it. As he is in "The Movie" at Winterland 74-10. Also Jerry's hair was the longest it every was in 1979 !
I've had some obsticals up to now. But as soon as possible, I'm eager to share this gem of show in its entirety with y'all good etree folks out there. So for those of you who've heard already the partial board that Joe Jupille here and others have (I haven't, yet myself as of this writing heard that), trust me the rest of it is at least as good or better performance wise and my recording is reasonable also ! So y'all can look forward to this amongst others. The good lord willin' !

A overly critical connoisseur,
