PINK FLOYD - Behind The Wall
Details:
During the Spring of 2000, in order to promote the release
of "The Wall Live - Is There Anybody Out There?" live album,
a 50 minute documentary called "Behind The Wall" was
produced and broadcast by TV stations worldwide. This
documentary was of course mainly based on The Wall concerts,
however it also looked at the history of Pink Floyd, from
Syd Barrett days to the late 1970s, describing the sequence
of events and frustrations that lead to the ambitious
concept of The Wall. The last part is even focused on the
third realisation of the concept (after the album and the
live shows): the film.
This documentary is therefore very complete, and includes
interviews with the 4 band members, stage designers Mark
Fisher and Jonathan Park, illustrator Gerald Scarfe, film
director Alan Parker, and Bob Geldof, who acted as Pink in
The Wall film.
But perhaps the most important thing about the documentary
is the inclusion of pro-shot footage filmed during The Wall
shows, that had never surfaced before, at least with that
quality. As a separate bonus on this DVD, This Place Records
produced a compilation of all these live extracts,
overdubbed with sound from "Is There Anybody Out There?"
CDs. Some additional footage was taken from the EPK version
of "Behind The Wall", in order to make the experience more
complete (some extracts from Another Brick In The Wall
Part 2, Nobody Home and Comfortably Numb appear in the EPK
but not in the documentary). The total length of that bonus
compilation is 15 minutes.
Another bonus is a 3 minute newsclip from "MCM Mag",
recorded from French TV channel "MCM", at the time "Is
There Anybody Out There?" was released.
For the documentary itself, This Place Records used a Master
PAL VHS, directly recorded from Belgian TV channel "RTBF2".
It includes a 3 minute introduction in French, by Marc Ysaye
(a well known figure in Belgium for his classic rock radio
shows, Marc is also the drummer of progressive rock band
Machiavel). The documentary is in English, with French
sub-titles.

Still as of yet transfered officially to DVD, the DVD is a live show from the 1988 tour and features songs taken from the August Nassau Coll. Shows in NY. Excelent trasfer of an excellent show.
