"The Return To Vegas" 2014 Follow That Dream (FTD) This is the official release of the soundboard recording that Joan Deary planned as a double album release back in the late seventies. It's the earliest known professional recording from Elvis' 1969 engagement in Las Vegas. The original tape box has 'opening night' written on the back, but that's not the real date. Some experts believe it's from August 3, but we have no information whatsoever to suggest a certain date. However, the arrangements seem to suggest that this show is definitely several days earlier than the shows RCA recorded from August 20 and onwards. Why Joan Deary edited and mastered this for release is another mystery, since she of course had all the shows RCA recorded on 8-track tape with audio in substantially better quality. "We do know that it is not the July 31 Opening Show as previously thought both by RCA and a subsequent bootlegger. They apparently keyed in on the line, 'This is my first live appearance in nine years', which Elvis actually stated at every full show thus far released at this engagement, while skipping his 'It’s hard to get going on these dinner shows' comment that makes it clear some fatigue is already setting in for Elvis in Vegas. Certainly he would not have said this at his first-ever Dinner Show on August 1, nor was he likely even to say it at the August 2 Dinner Show. Assuming this is not a splice of two shows, the August 3 Dinner Show seems to be the prevailing hypothesis among many fans." Playing time: 67:05

Elvis Presley January and February 1969 American Sound Studios Memphis, TN Fresh from his Comeback Special this is Elvis Presley at his peak. A new producer, strong material and one of the best session bands in the country reinvigorated the King. This is unarguably his most consistent post-army work. Outtakes and session recordings have appeared on many bootlegs before - most notably Finding The Way Home - but these have always been somewhat randomly selected and sequenced. For the first time, Purple Chick has gathered together every available piece and compiled a chronological 10CD set. Some of these versions have never appeared on CD before - others will be very familiar. Because of the informal nature of these sessions take numbers were not always announced. Although they have been given numbers in the intervening years this sometimes we have just had to make our best guess. PC tried to come up with a way of briefly annotating take along with the various overdubs that were made. Hopefully it should make some sense at least when listening to the discs.

Captain Marvel 2001-7 This album is important because it contains the original songs from the 1970 RCA album "On Stage", with the difference that they haven't been "doctored". No added instrumentation, no chopped dialogue - it is all here! The remaining material on the disc (tracks 2 - 17) were considered for the album but not used! Liner notes: The success of the live album 'Elvis In Person,' done in August 1969, encouraged the Colonel and RCA to do another one during Elvis' Las Vegas engagement in January/February 1970. 'Good Times Never Seemed So Good' consists of 17 recordings considered for this project, including three selections that didn't make it onto the 1969 'Elvis In Person ' LP. Out of the 17 recordings presented here, just 10 (tracks 2, 6, 8-10 and 12-15) made it onto the 'On Stage' album, but only after some backup vocalists overdubs. Listen how these undubbed recordings sound different. For instance, listen to The Sweet Inspirations singing off-mike in 'Proud Mary,' and off-key in 'The Wonder of You' - obviously, there was something not quite right with the amplification on stage and the Sweets could not hear themselves properly, otherwise there would have been no overdubs needed. The remainder of the tracks presented here (3-5, 7, and 11) never made it onto the 'On Stage' album, and they, too, are presented as they were recorded. As a bonus, 'Good Times Never Seemed So Good' contains recordings of a rehearsal done on July 24, 1970, at the RCA studios in Hollywood. From July 1969 up to August 1974, Elvis frequently used this studio for rehearsals. Recordings definitely were made of various rehearsals, and whilst the better part of those tapes seem tohave mysteriously disappeared, a few have been located in recent years. The August 1974 rehearsals that were unearthed a few years ago, are but one example. The selections from the July 24, 1970 rehearsal presented here, are yet another, and an indication of more to come.
