One of two exceptions being the 1985-06-30 (MPP, Columbia, MD) clip which is actually from the Space which preceeded The Other One. The clip contains an simulated bomb and explosion generated via midi. See below for the other exception. * This is the entire 1974-02-23 The Other One (approx 29minutes) 'folded' much in the style of John Oswald who created the "GreyFolded" album. Essentially, I took the entire 29 minute track, cut it in half, reversed the second half and overlayed it onto the first. Then I repeated the process until the track was reduced to the 1 second version currently in this mix. Venue information is not repeated so as to keep things relatively tidy. All sources are lossless and from archive.org/audio and are in compliance with the taping/trading policy of the band. This recording is not for sale. Mixed by rowjimmy. (2005-08-19)
The Other One mix is put together a lot like John Oswald's "Grayfolded".

The Exactly Perfect Brothers Band - Making it Just Exactly Right A number of weeks ago, I came across the July 19, 1974 show, which included a 10 minute or so soundcheck jam. After listening to it, I thought that it was a cool piece of music, nothing fancy or intense, but not too shabby either. So, it got me to thinking about whether there was enough other soundcheck music available to make a disc out of. After posting, checking GD Live and routing through my collection, I found enough good music to actually make 3 discs. You got to figure, with the Grateful Dead, there is no way to fit any one thing they did well unto one disc. Well, it's not all sound check music. I've thrown in healthy doses of some of the finer between songs tune ups (yes, there are mulitiple Roll Out the Barrels here), one Yellow Dog Story (I just had to), Hideaway which, even though it was played legitimately during the 11-7-71 show sounds like it would have been a great soundcheck song (and might have been, who knows), the initial China Cat Jam from 6-26-74, which seems to fit here also, some rehearsals and outtakes and a couple of odd ball things. This isn't high art, like Dark Star or The Other One, for example. Some of this is fun stuff, some working things out. As TunaMan sugested in a post, it's the boys striving to get things just exactly right for the show or else goofing while the crew worked on helping them get things right. Anyway, I used the July 27, 1973 Watkins Glen soundcheck (which is either the mother of all soundchecks or stretches the definition of a soundcheck to the breaking point, depending on your point of view) as the framework for these discs. The usual set and show structure is not present, other than Watkins Glen providing various bookends. The accustomed alternating Bob-Jerry selections is not present, for one thing and Pigpen is only featured once. All of that is a function of the material available. The transitions between selections are as best I can make them. The sources are different and in some cases, the tracks are cut into or out of abruptly. There is a 2 second crossfade from track to track which helps some of the transitions but I don't guarantee smoothness all of the way. Finally, there are no MD5s. I don't know what they are bu they don't seem necessary for a project like this. I also didn't use my MKW program correctly at first, so the .skt files for the first 2 discs are separate. I don't think that makes much of a difference either, but if it does, write me and I'll correct it. Blame this on the errors of a rookie. So, hope you enjoy and feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you think. Theoldman (dkshaer@verizon.net)
